If you died today do you know for sure where you would spend eternity?

If you died today, do you know for sure where you would spend eternity?

It might seem like a heavy way to start, but it’s one of the most important questions you could ever ask.

Some of you have heard this story many times. Others may have never heard it at all. So here’s a simple, clear explanation of why Jesus still matters more than 2,000 years later.

It goes all the way back to the beginning.

When God created humanity, He created us in His image and for a relationship with Himself. But He didn’t want robots programmed to say, “I will worship you, God.” For love to be real, it had to be a choice. We had to be free to choose Him—or not.

That freedom was given to us. And unfortunately, the first humans chose to rebel against God. They chose sin.

Sin is simply missing the mark—going against God’s will, His Word, and His design. From that point on, every human has been born with a nature inclined toward sin. Instead of living from God’s perfect design, we live from a place of selfishness.

The Bible says God is perfectly just, and that the consequence of sin is death.

This isn’t just physical death (the separation of body and spirit), but spiritual death—the separation of our spirit from God. And if God is the source of everything good—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness—then separation from Him is not something we would ever want.

Because God is just, He must call sin what it is. There is a real consequence for breaking His law.

But God is also perfectly loving.

He didn’t want that separation to be our final outcome. So He made a way for us to be forgiven.

The Bible says that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” In other words, God stepped into human form. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life so that He could become the perfect sacrifice—taking our place and paying the penalty for our sin.

Think of it like this:
If you owed a debt you couldn’t pay, and the judge said, “Yes, you’re guilty—but I’m going to pay the debt for you,” that’s what Jesus did. He took our place so we could be forgiven freely.

And it doesn’t stop there.

Three days after His death, He rose from the grave. This proved that He is who He claimed to be—and that not only can our sins be forgiven, but we can receive the righteousness of the life He lived.

A lot of people think that when they stand before God, it will come down to this:
“Did my good outweigh my bad?”

But that’s not how it works.

The Bible says that all have sinned and fall short of God’s standard. If we stand before Him based on our own merit, we fall short—every time.

It’s like standing before a judge after breaking the law and saying, “I know I did wrong, but I also did some good things.” The judge would still say, “You broke the law, and there is a consequence.”

In the same way, if we rely on ourselves, we cannot meet God’s standard.

But here’s the turning point:

We are given a choice.

Just like the first humans were given a choice, we now have one too—to accept or reject what Jesus has done for us.

If we accept it, we are choosing to follow Him as Lord of our lives. That means we no longer live solely for ourselves—we surrender to His way, His purpose, and His design.

It’s not a light decision. It’s a complete change in direction.

But it’s worth it.

God loves you more than you love yourself. He created you with purpose. And a relationship with Him is more fulfilling, meaningful, and alive than anything this world can offer.

So take a moment and really think about this:

Do you want a relationship with God?
Do you want to accept His free gift of forgiveness and salvation?

If the answer is yes, don’t wait.

Make that decision today.
