Birth of A New Hope
The popular Christmas carol, “Silent Night”, was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics written by Joseph Mohr in 1816, in anticipation of the birth of Christ our Savior. This well-known Christmas hymn has been sung by people from all nations and cultures as a celebration of life. Christmas begins with “Christ”, literally and figuratively. Christmas carries that sense of deep reflection and peace as heavens rejoice to the birth of a new hope, and this is the true meaning of Christmas for me.
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
'Round yon virgin Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight!
Glories stream from heaven afar;
Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born!
Silent night, holy night
Son…
