What Is Your Identity In Christ?
Most people often struggle with identity. Tarah-Lynn, creator of Adorned in Armor, shares that,
Your identity is who you are. It’s how you view yourself and in some circles, it’s how the world may view you. Your identity speaks to the characteristics that define you.
It is important to get to know yourself by exploring activities, spending time alone, and cultivating relationships. However, these will only provide you with extensions of yourself.
When we find Christ in us and in our neighbor, we find our core - our source. It remains to be the best way to discover and embrace our true selves. In Christ, our lives have more meaning and purpose, and we get to live it with freedom as who He called us to be.
Our Identity is God’s Gift
We are called to walk according to our identity as God’s children. As Christians, we had been adopted into God’s family. In the heart of Christianity is our true identity in Christ, an opportune time to reflect, discover and embrace this identity through our actions. In Christ, we are never lost or confused because we become our true selves only in him.
Whitney Hopler shared in her article, Your Identity in Christ - 14 Things God Says of You List that God intends for all people to find their identity in Christ.
If you’re a Christian, your identity encompasses all the abundance of being a beloved child of God.
The Bible remains a true testament of our identity as a gift from God.
Christ in Us
Christ is in us...he is our life.
In an article entitled, What is my identity in Christ? we learn more about why this is.
Because Jesus died and rose again for the forgiveness of your sins, when you received His sacrifice as a gift to you, you instantly became His. This is who you are.
In Christ, we are firm and secure in Him (Hebrews 6:19).
Once you become a new creation in Him, everything changes for the better. You're given a new name. Your whole identity changes because you've been rescued and redeemed from sin and darkness and welcomed into God's family.
Mary Rooney Armand affirms this in an article she wrote for Butterfly Living which reads,
This knowledge empowers, encourages, and affirms my identity in Christ because I know I am defined by God and not my circumstances. I find contentment, confidence, freedom, and peace leaning not on my own understanding but on the promises of God.
Live Your Life in Union With Christ
An interesting insight from an article in Desiring God reads that we cannot experience anything greater than the fullness of union with Christ. Nothing reaches higher or is more theologically comprehensive.
Understanding our identity is one thing, but it’s more important to live our best life knowing who we really are and where our true identity lies - in Christ.
