What Is Heaven Like?
276. That’s the number of times the word “heaven” is found in the New Testament alone.
Peter Kreeft attempted to answer questions about heaven such as, "What do you know about heaven? Have you ever been there?" And he shares this brilliant answer in his blog, “What Will Heaven Be Like?”,
"No, but I have a very good friend who has. He came here and told us about it and showed it to us. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
So, is heaven real? Absolutely! Heaven is a real place according to the Bible and since it exists, you might wonder, “what is heaven like”?
Jessica Miller shares that when people try to imagine heaven, they sometimes picture “ethereal images like angels loafing on clouds or chubby cherubs strumming on harps”.
Yet the Bible’s teaching on heaven is much more rich and meaningful than that.
Got Questions describes heaven as a place of “no mores.”
There will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more sorrow (Revelation 21:4). There will be no more separation, because death will be conquered (Revelation 20:6). The best thing about heaven is the presence of our Lord and Savior (1 John 3:2). We will be face to face with the Lamb of God who loved us and sacrificed Himself so that we can enjoy His presence in heaven for eternity.
Heaven Is A Place of Godliness
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”
Matthew 6:10
In the article, “What Is Heaven Like According to the Bible?”, we learn more about the biblical description of heaven, as a place where God dwells (Revelation 21:3) and where the light of Jesus permeates every corner (Revelation 22:5).
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 says, “The things God has prepared for those who love him” are “revealed to us by his Spirit.” To counter false, unbiblical notions, we need to study and meditate on “words taught by the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:13). Our eternal home is a real place (John 14:1-3) where we will reside in real, physical bodies (1 Corinthians 15) and where we will experience everlasting joys, rewards, and treasures (Matthew 5:12; Matthew 6:19-20; Luke 6:23).
Heaven has no place for evil. Heaven is a place of perfect health, joy, and happiness. Your favorite place here on earth, only better. Perfect righteousness and justice reign supreme. There is complete eradication of evil, and the pain that evil brings.
Heaven Is A Place To Do Meaningful Work
As opposed to how heaven is portrayed in most movies, it is not a place for eternal relaxation and retirement.
David Kim, who is in passionate pursuit of the Bible and its teachings, shares that,
...that there will be work “in heaven” and it will be entirely effective and fulfilling. As we looked at in the previous section, our eternal home is the New Earth, where the New Heaven will come to be joined with.
That means work will be entirely fulfilling and meaningful. Imagine how fulfilling work can be if there is no insecurity, injustice, jealousy, or deception. We will be able to work and cooperate with God and with each other.
Our work will be in service of God and His Kingdom. All worthy of the kingdom of heaven will rule and reign over God’s creation to serve and bring creation to its fullest potential. (Matt. 20:25-26)
To add, Reagan Rose writes in her article, “Will We Work in Heaven?”,
“Imagine all of the things you love about work — the satisfaction, the sense of progress, the knowledge that you have brought something that was disordered into a greater state of order — but imagine all of that without the confusion, sweat, or annoyance that is part and parcel of our work now! Now, that’s a job I wouldn’t mind signing up for.”
Heaven Is A Place I Want To Spend Eternity In
Bibleinfo provides a glimpse of how we can spend our eternity in heaven,
The most amazing and almost unbelievable fact is that the way to heaven is not complicated. Our title to heaven is given freely to those who accept that God bore our wrongs against Himself when Jesus died on the cross. When we ask Him for forgiveness and a new heart to keep His commandments, He will freely give us both.
Pursuit Bible’s article reiterates that “the reality of heaven brings purpose and meaning to life here on earth right now”.
Our life here on earth can’t satisfy the deepest desires of our heart, for our soul and spirit becomes fully alive in our encounter with God’s love.
We are called to live our lives with purpose and mission as disciples of God. Heaven is a place that awaits us, but our life here on earth must be lived in faith and prayer, as we are welcomed once again in God’s kingdom in heaven.
